wanderlust

Jeezum Crow, people! The beauty. So, what I do sometimes is laze around at the computer thinking of places on the map and then google them. Then I sit and think about how much I don't know about the world. And because I'm a sensitive sort this thought often brings tears to my eyes. Because I'm thinking, Oh My God, the beauty, the ugliness, all the people and their families and their lives and the raging monsoons and the migrating butterflies and the violence and the babies being born. I get overwhelmed. I sometimes get this wave of love like I want to hug every single human being on the planet all at the same time. Sometimes I feel complete despair because people hurt one another. Does this sound like a really bad college application essay? hahahaha.
The thing is. I'm being serious. You know how cliches are so cloying and annoying but at the same time undeniably true?
Anyway, here are a couple pictures of rural China. Seen in the best most beauty-filled light. Because I don't want to ignore the despair but really, it's the beauty.

This is a lovely post! You're much more sweet and sensitive, but it reminds me of my coworker who plops down on the unused PC next to my computer and goes on "google vacations". He obsessively checks where google streets has traveled most recently and then "drives" around and looks at all the beautiful places he's been before or places he would like to visit someday when he can afford a vacation.

Such a beautiful post, Liane...

It's true about the beauty and the despair... And to keep going, we cling to the beauty and the kindness. We have to. Or I have to, at any rate.

It's an unfinished thought (mine)... Sorry. But I did love reading your words this morning, my dear. Thank you.

xoxo,
-maria

yes! another jeezum crow user! and wanderlust i have plenty of -- i get some of my fix from foreign movies...it's crazy how the most beautiful places in the world are also the poorest and yet, sadly, excess wealth tends to destroy these places (my humble-not-so opinion)...still i love how people can live so joyfully in the midst of what appears to be despair to our western eyes...

Google vacation sounds nice, - it's kind of how I use blogging. I've actually travelled trough Vietnam by myself a few years ago - from north, by the chinese border, (so I've been in these landscapes you are showing) to south and up the Mekong Delta. It's the most exciting experience I've ever had. You shoud go too :) I felt completely safe travelling alone. People there were a head shorter than me, - even though I'm quite short for beeing a norwegian - and they are all smiling - all the time - for real... Keep up the lovely dreaming!
