backyard, baby

my backyard is a raging mess right now and i'm not just saying that or being coy.  everything is drying up because of the GODAWFUL heat wave here and plus i'm not taking care of it whatsoever.  i'm too busy rearranging the stuff in my living room.  plus i've been kind of popular lately. quit snickering.  i have engagements almost every night this week.

but, here's my question: i have mint coming out my eyeballs and i picked some of it which you may view in the basket above.  i'm going to hang it inside to dry and usually i make tea throughout the winter but i need some other clever ideas about how to use it once it's dried.  please advise.

also i have an update regarding Major Asshole.  that's him up there.  seems he's not so much a MA but more of a Captain Wuss.  When I go into the coop to muck it out of feed the masses or what have you he cowers and sometimes hides under the pigpile of chickens in the corner.  so much for protecting the ladies.

anyways, what's going on in your gardens?  we are eating cucumbers and snap peas but still waiting on the tomatoes.

love forever,
me

minted sweet pea mash!
i usually make this with fresh mint but you can probably use dried.
saute peas in butter until warmed through. pulse in a food processor (or hand mash) until pureed. toss in mint. salt & pepper to taste.

might sound weird but it's super good. great on crackers/crostini too. and it's pretty. :)

That's a LOT of Mojitos. I'll help you drink them.

you are the funniest person. such a sense of humor. thanks for making me laugh. your garden sounds wonderful. i am limited to a ridiculous area on my tiny deck to grow things in pots; my memories of our huge gardens in washington are screaming "you call this gardening?". but i'm grateful for even this tiny garden. summer is wonderful, isn't it? wish it would last forever!!

Make Lassi with the mint. 1 quart of milk, 1 quart of plain yogurt, 3/4 c sugar or honey, 2 tsp vanilla. After mixing this together add about 5 sprigs of bruised mint. Let it stand in the fridge for 4 or 5 hours, remove the mint and enjoy!

If you make this with dried mint, you will need a tea ball or cheese cloth; you may also need to add some extra mint for more flavour.

Hi- you don't know me but I've had similar issues w/ mint in the past and found that if you roll small batches of it up in saran wrap you can freeze it (like cigar shapes)and it actually thaws out good. I say small batches cause it doesn't like to be refrozen unless you have the need for a lot of mint at once-
Oh and your garden looks way better than mine in this heat/lack of effort taking care of it.

Morning Glories!! Love 'em.
These photos of your northern garden are so enriching. Even with a yard, I can't grow a garden like that here in Florida. Take me back to ole Virginee. :)

Mint is delicious just cut up fine and tossed into a tossed salad. Trust me It is divine!
