new dress

my friends and family might tell you that i am the kind of person with a real defined aesthetic.  and i would say it's true with the caveat that i have a history of funny little (read ugly) run-ins with weird "looks."

but i'm getting older (sigh ugh) and settling in with my personal style.  i wonder if this is a natural part of aging. i have my qualms with how the years are whizzing by but in general the process feels right.

this dress was too good to pass up...and inexpensive.  bought here.  i don't buy myself much but when i do i guess i make a big deal about it.  anyway,  i felt like i needed a few new things.  and these past several years  i'm honestly honing in on my style.  it's a great discovery, really.  i feel confident in what i like and how i want to dress.  and it feels fun again.  and authentic.

when you get dressed in the morning do you have a clear feeling that you are dressing as you?  do you spend a lot of time changing and have a vague sense of dissatisfaction or do you feel right?  did it take you some time and growing up to discover how you want to express yourself with clothes?

Love this dress, perfect for the upcoming season - great lines, pockets!, cozy & comfy... can't quite tell the fabric but wanna know!
I'm in a weird betwixt-between phase of clothing. It's bothersome and sort of irritating (aging...arrgh. The free and breezy summer styles of the past just don't suit anymore, so I'm very grateful for the coming snuggly season.
Do most of my shopping at thrifts, spend most of my time in jeans and loose (flowy not flowery) tops, am picky about fabric(pure and simple) ... sigh. Not sure I know anymore. It's easier to define my style but what I won't wear than what I will - if that makes sense. But love your new dress and boots : ) happy wearing.

i love that dress! looks like it's from the 1920s or a bit before. and i know how you feel about growing into your style. i still wake up and put on clothing that i later change. but i've been doing that since i was three. it wasn't uncommon for me as a child to change dresses two or three times in a day. haha. but i'm working on my wardrobe so that all of my pieces are ones i look good in feel great in.

I LOOOOVE this dress, Liane, and your style in general! It's exactly the kind of dresses I'm attracted to, simple, utilitarian and authentically olde. How olde is it, exactly? (1910s? 1920s?)

I dress myself every day to reflect who I am and what I love. I do change with the seasons, fall/winter is commonly "english riding/hunting" and spring/summer is currently "my house on the prairie" (a name bastardized by my one male co-worker - ha!). I probably put more time and attention to my wardrobe and how i dress than any of my other creative pursuits and always have.

Your post so resonates with me. I don't feel comfortable in my own clothes yet. Never put much thought into my style/look, but I should. I recently had some help from a friend buying a few summer items. Overall, the me I see in my mind doesn't look like the me in the mirror. So glad to know that that can change. Please post a photo of you wearing that beautiful dress. xoxo Mandy

I used to get a hard time by my siblings about changing my clothes 6 times a day (I still do it sometimes - when I actually leave my house). My mom tells stories about how I was very stubborn when I was little and needed to dress myself. My dad would let me. Mom would usually not, due to my 'unusual' style. I think I got railroaded into feeling like I needed to dress according to some 'other' acceptable style for much of my life. I finally feel like I am finding my style too, and it feels really great. It's fun. It's another part of expressing one's creativity. And I love this dress. Love your style Liane.

Yeah, I totally get what you are saying. It has just been the past few years that I feel like I am wearing clothes that are truly my style. I wonder why it took so long? It's just leggings and boots and a sweater but it's mine :)
