penpals

GREAT RESPONSE, THANKS!  I HAVE ALL THE PARTICIPANTS THIS TIME AROUND BUT MAYBE WE CAN DO IT AGAIN IN FEBRUARY!
IF YOU LEFT A COMMENT HERE PLEASE ALSO SEND ME AN EMAIL AT ENHABITEN@LIVE.COM AND DON'T FORGET TO GIVE ME YOUR NAME AND SNAIL MAIL ADDRESS!

when i was about 12 years old i subscribed to a penpal newsletter.  it included the names and addresses of kids all over the world who were interested in befriending other kids through snail mail.  over time i accumulated over 50 regular penpals and wrote letters almost daily.  i recall receiving multiple letters at a time and i remember with fondness one particular pal from germany named inge.  she sent me a coveted picture of herself standing next to her bicycle on what i remember to be a quintessentially european narrow cobblestone street.   i was enthralled.

thinking this morning about the thrill of checking the mailbox back in those days along with the prospect of what feels like a long and bare january here in the northeast usa, i came up with a potentially cheerful activity.

i was hoping to find some enhabiten readers who might be interested in a little happy mail experience.  if some of you might be interested in participating in a package exchange this month you could send me an email with your name and address to enhabiten@live.com.  ALL FULL THIS TIME AROUND, THANKS! i will take the first 5 of you and here's what we can do:

this month we will all put together 5 small packages or large envelopes filled with little surprises.  these should be handmade and/or inexpensive.  also include a note with a bit of news from your corner of the world and a bit about yourself.  by the last day of january all the packages should be sent out to the other participants and in early february we can each anticipate 5 surprise snail mail packages in our mail box.

so if you like, send me your information.  as soon as i have a group together i'll send all of you the contact information of the other penpals.

What a great idea, Lianne. reminds me to write to my pen pal in Maine. having a baby has really caused me to neglect her...
