homemade life giveaway

morning all!  i was cleaning up my kitchen yesterday...like crazy clean where you scrub all the shelves (including UNDER the sink, holy cow).  AND since i have two copies of the above book i figured i would do a little giveaway on my blog and let a reader have one of them.

so, babies, if you want to join in leave a comment.  let's seeeee, what sort of comment should it be...hows about you tell me what kind of food you've been craving lately.  it can be real general like, i want SALT and i want it NOW.  or it can be more specific along the lines of GIVE ME fresh apples, HEIRLOOM ESOPUS SPITZENBERGS only, with HOMEMADE HOT CARAMEL SAUCE.  that would be my current crave.

i will choose a winner in a week from today.

ok?

love,
me

Ha! Hilarious. I'd say I'm craving everything holiday-related- swedish almond cookies, vin chaud, hot chocolate, gingerbread, and those bizarre striped holiday candies that i can never seem to remember the name of....

well, I already have this book and love it, so I guess don't count me in. but if you care to know, I've been craving sea salt caramels.

I've been craving old-school, 1960s Betty Crocker-syle casseroles. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I tell him, I'm from the Midwest. That's what we grow up eating. It's like telling a person from Louisiana not to crave gumbo.

The one thing I am always craving is potato pancakes with crispy edges and soft centers covered in melted butter and tangy sour cream... and a big glass of milk! Man, now i think i have to go make some...

cheesy goodness... cheese please!

Yaya's cheddar popcorn. I think it is the salt, but not just any salty thing will do. On any given day this week, there is a trail of cheddar popcorn through the house.

I could eat nothing but egg noodles with butter all day long. Too bad there's no nutritional value in that.

It's nearly summer here, and I am craving heirloom tomatoes on spelt sourdough toast with olive oil, salt, pepper, basil and parsley. I think I am going to make myself some right now!

i've been craving hot apple cider, like the kind you drink outside and take off your gloves just to feel the warmth of the mug you are drinking from. sigh, pure bliss.

Soup-- it's finally cold here in Texas and I want soup! And it's time for a big pot of read beans and rice, too.

I have the book already, so no need to enter me into the contest, but I felt like sharing my food craving anyway (love any excuse to talk/think/eat food!)

I have been craving udon noodle soup with tempura vegetables. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

I've crave eggs, especially since we have our own chickens. I enjoy them for breakfast and whip up quick dinners with eggs. Glad my son likes them too.

Scrambled with diced end of season tomatoes and a handful of cheese.

If you have some good egg recipes that you and your family enjoy and would love to share I'd be grateful.
Thanks,
Lisa

Hot, fresh, steamed Tibetan momos! Not just any momos, but the real deal - handmade by the hardy, beautiful & enduring mamas of the Himalaya. Oh, and they have to be served and eaten standing in the crisp misty morning air of a street stall, with little glasses of hot, sweet chai. Yes, that is exactly what I crave.

I'm a pretty new reader so this is my first time commenting here I think. I am craving mangoes, which is convenient as I bought a huge box of them from my youngest child's school fundraiser this week. I've eaten two so far. 38 to go.

Sweet potato, fixed any ol' way. I no it's not original or intersting. Please, PLEASE say I still have a chance at winning this amazing book.

Mouthwatering comments:)
Here goes mine. My husband plants beetroots in a growbag on the roof of our kitchen and only he can get at them (as it involves climbing this big heavy ladder).Every day I look at them from our bathroom window and I am craving good old borsch, aka Russian beetroot soup, bright red, with the roots as wells as leaves cooked with lots of garlic, a huge amount of dill on top, a dollop of creme fraiche, and served with brown rye bread coated in garlic oil and grilled lightly...
Now my craving is worse, I've got to have the borsch soon, this weekend, tomorrow! I will make him climb up there and pull them out:) Beets from the shop just won't do!

Hi L,

I dream of rhubarb cake. My Grandma made it super moist but still airy and sponge like. The cinnamon and tart rhubarb almost took second place to the crispy brown sugar and cinnamon skin floating, bubbled on top. I doubt that it will ever taste that good again.

Love your blog
J

I would like a bo bun... with nems, thin slices of meat with spices, soja, carots and some chinese cabbage, and rice noodles under with sauce based on soja, nuoc-mam and lemon...
But the weather is not fine, cold and rainy... maybe I will prefer a russian bortsch or a french "pot-au-feu"...
Huummm...

i made this: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/10/butternut-squash-and-caramelized-onion-galette/ the other night and was craving it again immediately the second the leftovers were gone. absolutely the best savory pastry thing i've ever made.

hey, we met that one time at bowerbirds, by the way! i was with Alice and had to leave early because, well, i ate too much for dinner and had a stomachache. like ya do.

anyway i just spent the better part of a half hour 'heart'ing nearly every pillow in your shop. such good stuff, girl. I CAN NOT DECIDE.

I have been craving tons of meat, garlic mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole....the kind with lots of french onions and cream of mushroom soup.
Oh I am so ready for Thanksgiving with all the good comfort food.
I think that book looks splendid!

I feel for your new involuntary sleep schedule - this time change tends to throw me off, plus you've got the worry going on ... hope it swings the other way soon.

Craving my mom's famous one-pot chicken and dumplings on this chilly and windy day. Here's the ridiculously simple retro recipe that harkens back to the '60s or earlier. Ingredients: cut up fryer, large bag of frozen mixed vegetables, large can of cream of chicken soup, and Bisquick for dumplings. 1) Brown the chicken (seasoned per taste) and place in the bottom of a 4-qt or thereabouts oven pot. Layer the frozen veggies on top, then the canned (as is, don't dilute) soup. Bake at 350 for 1 hr. Make dumplings according to box as directed (and bake on top of chicken mix in oven). Eat with gusto - kids especially love it (as well as the kid within).
