yada yada

hi pals,

i'm tempted to spend the next few minutes complaining to you about my injured back....from shoveling and firewood hauling....which keeps getting worse to the point where i can't fasten my own seat belt without wincing and led me to call my mother to beg any stray painkillers hanging around her medicine cabinet.   should i not admit this?  i know it's naughty.  if it makes it any better she didn't answer the phone.

but i'm nothing if not stoic so i won't mention it.

above is my backyard.  the 1970s quilt blocks have been hanging there since, ohhhhhh, mid-november.  i'm trying to fade them.  i know.  only me.

i AM doing a shop update later.  probs tonite.  i'm mid-photo-editing right now.  if i don't get to it till tomorrow don't hold it against me.

because right after i wash last night's dinner dishes (gross) i'm going out to shop for new curtains.  which i'm kind of excited about.  i spent a couple days recently putting up that horrid but pretty effective blow-dry window plastic since our house is a huge heat suck.  have i mentioned that our place has 13 old rooms? with around 40 old single pane windows?  many of those windows never had curtains on them and i can't look at that plastic till spring .

wish me luck i find some good ones.

i know what you mean baout your back, i feel the same way one to many muckings and hauling feed bags. actually went to the chiro( do not take meds) three days week for a month and nada so instead i take the time( which i found hard to do but totally worth it) to lie on the hardwood floor stretch from toes to finger tips three four times a day and a good hot shower!

you could always give me a ring about those meds....have quite a few stowed away from previous ailments....but I'm always too chicken to use 'em. LOVE that you're trying to fade those quilts....yes, that's what I love about you! And, we too have plenty of single-pane windows that I'm currently scheming to cover because of high heating bills. Geesh! Cheers!

13 rooms! what I wouldn't give. certainly somethings i wouldn't but that does sound fabulous. i'm so cramped in this tiny place.
could you try a super light bleach-wash?

You should stick the quilt squares in the front and back dashboards of your car, things ALWAYS fade quickly there!

I feel your pain on the window plastic. we use it everywhere around here since we live in an old granite barn that was poorly made into a house and not kept up very well by the owners... Anyway, we have NO curtains in the whole house, it is kind of strange, but maybe one day we will get some.

Your home sounds amazing - and cold - and amazing. And with your sense for fabrics I guess you will make your curtains look perfectly quirky, dusty lovely. Fading textiles sounds as a great idea and it's nice to look at during winter time in a white, grey landscape :) - if you have pain because your muscles are stiff from working, then you can take supplements of magnesium ...

Have a great, creative day

Sorry to hear about pulling your back with firewood and shoveling. I too am suffering from tweaking my back last Saturday, but I still stayed out in the woods to watch my son fell a tree. Get yourself a back brace, it's heavenly relief and for me is almost immediate relief while the pain meds kick in. When you're in back pain it doesn't matter who you get the pain meds from. Between the day job sitting at a computer all day, sewing in the evening, everyday life and now hauling wood I've started going to the chiropractor regularly. Considering I work at a hospital I do believe in the benefits of regular adjustments, keeps me off pain meds from chronic pain. You might try that. stretching out on the floor with your legs up on a chair or couch might help also, even in the winter I still use my ice pack.
Hope you feel better soon.
