here

i found this vintage enamel top table circa 1930s-40s at the dump a few days ago.  it was covered in surface rust and i spent a couple hours yesterday cleaning it.  there's still a little left so if you have any tips for me for getting that last bit off let me know.  so far i've used a paste of vinegar and baking soda and some nasty commercial bleach cleaner.  it was crazy warm here yesterday so i was able to do the work outside.
here's what the table looked like prior:

all the wood nailed to the legs served no structural purpose...so i just pulled it off.  i'm guessing it was the work of a child just messing around.  there was a little drawing in pencil on one of the boards.
...
this morning i walked out into the woods behind my place and chopped down a small charlie brown christmas tree:

i'll wait till eli gets home from school to decorate.
.
and now i'm gonna get to work.

afternoon, beautiful people.

so it's true..i have a knack for finding old treasures and sometimes get them for free.  i'm not too shy to admit it.  my husband fails to credit me with this talent and sometimes, EVEN, fails to appreciate my SKILLZ.  I KNOW, RIGHT?!?  i found that old wooden bowl at the dump yesterday.  GO, ME.  and that little peek of curtain is one i bought the other day.  i was not in the mood to sew curtains.  i actually got these at target.  but i have to say that there is a definite lack of suitable (read- not ugly) curtains in these parts.  it was a struggle to find something un-icky.

and i put a few new things in el shoppo.  a bunting...and some new embroidered feather pillows!  i like these pillows.  i hope you do, too.

snow day

i made some snow day french toast for breakfast.  the syrup came from a farm friend up the road, the eggs came from my chickens and the bread came from a local bakery *free* because another farmer friend of mine picks up all their day olds destined for the trash and she shares with me.  AWESOME.  also, let's see how far i can take this: the plate and mug came from the transfer station swap shop, the lace table cloth was given to me...

here's my living room currently.  there's the dresser i bought at auction, remember?  i moved it in here the other day and started moving pictures on the walls around but didn't finish.  you know how when you get something new it causes a chain reaction like that?  also if you look closely you can see 2 laptops...all my kids are home today plus husband.  i want to finish rearranging but i like to do it without an audience..know what i mean?  and this is the view from the office where i sit at the computer.  you can see the unfinished office wall in the doorway.  it's been like that for, um, 2 years or so.  real life, people.

backyard snow!

put some more things in the shop this morning.  i've still got a lot more but will have to wait till this storm passes to photograph the rest.

mucho smoocho,
