older than bees

polaroid
...

OLDER THAN BEES

the magnolia is ancient
older than bees
which buzz at night

not the bees
but my memory of the bees
with soft edges without light

the bees disappear at night
without strength without fight

the magnolia is ancient
only with forgiveness, only light

...
(i think i'm still working on this one.)
can you guess which words i was given to use for this poem?

sweetheart

i'll be making these patchwork heart cushions all next week.
each will be a unique patchwork with a variety of mostly hand-dyed materials, stuffed with buckwheat hulls and with a vintage wool back.  they'll be shipped out by next thursday february 7 latest,  in time for valentine's day.

some will be in the shop but i am taking pre-orders as well for the next few days.  they are $28 each plus shipping.  when you email me let me know your zip code so i can calculate the proper shipping which will run from $6-9 for priority mail.  you can email me at enhabiten@live.com if you'd like to place an order and i will invoice you via paypal.

thanks and happy valentine's day!

it just won't stop raining here.

i made the body of that bag in the first and last picture a couple years ago and then it languished in a pile of unfinished things.  the other day i sewed the strap on with some of the hemp webbing i've been dyeing for new shop goods.  it's a nice switch from the bag i've been carrying around for years.  i used a variety of patched together antique fabrics for the lining and i like this part best.  the color combination of the outer canvas, the strap and the worn rose colors of the lining are pleasing.

you can also see in that top picture a pair of socks i knit a few years ago.  they had a giant hole in one heel.  i couldn't figure out how to darn it so i patched.

this weekend i drove out to my favorite local group shop and bought the antique hutch top in the middle picture for next to nothing.  it was filthy and only has one door.  but since moving i've had all my non-refrigerated food stored in paper bags.  not ideal.  the hutch works pretty well.  now i just need to finish patching the drywall nearby.  and install the kitchen stove.  i've been cooking on a little plug in electric burner.  have i not told you that?  roughing it.

has anyone read "the bone people"?  my sister, louisa, bought me a copy.  i've just started to read it.

auction goods and patch rugs

Darlings-
Here are a few things I'd like to bid on at an upcoming auction in April.
Nice, no?

And here are some patched oriental rugs I found the other day. Bad me, at the moment I can't find the link to the shop which sells these (surry rugs). I will find it and post when I do. But I'm not sure what I think of these..

Oh, and by the way, that chair I said I HAD TO HAVE at the auction last week...it was kind of sucky up close. So I didn't bid. But, I did get some great worn quilts including 2 patchwork and one crazy quilt. Some pillows made from these will be in the shop tomorrow.
And did you know International Quilt Day is March 20?? Oh my god, let the celebration begin! haha. I imagine the whole world will shut down and there will be dancing in the streets and everyone will be all "quilts this and quilts that."
I kid.
I love quilts but sometimes I think all the "days" devoted to this and that are goofy.
Okey doke, see you tomorrow. Enjoy the day today. I have to go to a wedding shower later. Then I'll probably stop in at an antique shop and the thrift before coming home.
