no one ever is to blame

I saw Howard Jones live in 1986. I repeat, I saw Howard Jones, live, in 1986. One of the things I remember most was seeing this girl in the audience who was to this day the hippest girl I've ever seen. She had this bob haircut and her hair was dark brown but then the bottom inch was dyed blonde. I can't tell you how much I admired that hair-do.

I love everything about this video. The outfit, THE HAIR, the dry ice. I also saw Bob Dylan in concert that year (or maybe the next?). He was my main squeeze. And I listened to Joni Mitchell endlessly. And I had a girl crush on Ricki Lee Jones. But there was that brief and somewhat unexpected affair with Howard. And the idea that no one, EVER, is to blame. It's appealing, no?

I remember really wanting to go see him in concert and not being able to. I loved this song! I also have a memory of my friend palying this song at our first boy/girl Halloween party at her house.

Two of the best shows I've even been to involved Howard Jones: the first show was in 1984 when Howard Jones opened for the Eurythmics, the second was in 1989 when I saw Midge Ure (swoon!) open for Howard. He's a great talent and seems like such a nice man. : )
