nicolette camille

This place is definitely in my top 3 favorite Design*Sponge Sneak Peeks. You can find the full peek here.
Nicolette Camille teaches Flower School with Sarah at Saipua and I truly want to plan a trip to NY so I can go to one of the sessions. Anyone in NY or Brooklyn want to put me up for a weekend??
Tangentially, I have used Saipua soap and it's really lovely. You should try it. Also, Sarah's blog makes me laugh wicked hard.

dear momma

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite Christmas gifts. My son Ethan, my little artist prodigy spawn (heehee), made me a mixed CD. We share the same music taste and he is also a musician so he's always finding great music I may not have unearthed myself. But the music on the CD is not the only great part of the gift. He also typed me a note and playlist and put it all in an old map envelope. Because presentation is important, peoples.
Here are some vids from the artists he included. First a Bondy one:

Makes you want to play the harmonic, no?
And then we have Joanna Newsom because I can't help myself. Will you please pay attention to the lyrics? I think she is amazing with the words to her songs. Genius, really.

And last, here's St. Vincent:

I wanna go to Paris,I wanna go to Paris, I wanna go to Paris, I wanna go to Paris,I wanna go to Paris....If I say it enough times will it happen?

yokoo's home

Found this on Kate's blog and had to post it here, too. It's that good. I really don't even like this color independent of the objects in the space. But Yokoo sooo makes it work with her art and vintage. I want to be thinking about this kind of balance in my own house in the future.

Oh yeah, and Happy Christmas Eve Day.

don't be jealous

but we just rocked this gingerbread house. at first we thought it was a fail..i miscalculated and ran out of dough, the walls cracked, people kept eating the candy! but lo and freaking behold, i woke up this morning and said to myself, you have got to finish the gingerbread house or this christmas will completely suck. heehee. just teasing.
anywaysssss...i thought you'd want to see it from all angles. the design is copyrighted, however. so don't even try it.

title unknown

Just a few images by photographer James Merrell here. I love the stack of journals on the mantel one best. And FYI, one of my house desires is to have a sleeping porch. And although the image above is terribly romantic looking I think I'd like it screened in and with a bit more privacy.
And for some unknown reason that makes me think about the fact that I have a terrible case of claustrophobia. You? I cannot be in the back seat of a car especially in the olden days of small cars with 2 doors only. Pure torture.
Last, do you like T-Rex? The band. Hmmm? So naughty glam badass. "You're dirty and sweet, Oh Yeahhh." haha.

rambling with pretty

My aforementioned best friend Jenny grew up in Minnesota. I met her my sophomore year of college in 1987. She turned me on to Greg Brown. And then I had a long love affair with Greg Brown. In my head. Which you may find funny. He's a big guy, he wears muscle-like t's and funny hats and old men's blazers. His voice is an acquired taste. There was a decade where I went to see a show of his every year. But I'm not going to make you watch a Greg Brown video on you tube. I'm going to give you this link to a song of his sung by his three daughters named Pieta, Zoe and Constie. It's about his Grandmother. I think it's a beautiful version with sweet harmonies. You can find it on an album which was made as a tribute to Greg called Going Driftless.

The End.

My Friend Vivi

I love the way this girl paints. Well, I just love this girl. She was one of my very first friends on Etsy and I'm grateful for her. She's kind and generous and we are so similar aesthetically speaking. Here's another of her paintings. These are for sale in this shop. And she has two other Etsy shops here and here.

ewa i walla

I am seriously dying over the issue of selvedge i just got in the mail. dy-ing. i die. there's ewa i walla and j. morgan puett. don't even get me started on j. morgan puett. that will have to be a full post for next week. but i'm afraid to read this issue because i don't want it to be over.
so i'm doing a pre-read blog post. even though i already have a mega awesome post on howard jones waiting in the wings. i know. this is serious business.

no one ever is to blame

I saw Howard Jones live in 1986. I repeat, I saw Howard Jones, live, in 1986. One of the things I remember most was seeing this girl in the audience who was to this day the hippest girl I've ever seen. She had this bob haircut and her hair was dark brown but then the bottom inch was dyed blonde. I can't tell you how much I admired that hair-do.

I love everything about this video. The outfit, THE HAIR, the dry ice. I also saw Bob Dylan in concert that year (or maybe the next?). He was my main squeeze. And I listened to Joni Mitchell endlessly. And I had a girl crush on Ricki Lee Jones. But there was that brief and somewhat unexpected affair with Howard. And the idea that no one, EVER, is to blame. It's appealing, no?

don't judge me

If you buy me these blouses I'll be really nice to you. And on a totally different topic, did you even know I was president of my class in 7th grade AND captain of my cheerleading squad? We won the tourney that year. I also remember that Mrs. Benoit, the English teacher, played this game with us where she predicted what we would be when we grew up. She said I would be a JUDGE. Because I was FAIR. I was always really proud of that. As you can see, I'm still talking about it in, let's see, it would be 37th grade.

what erin made me do

OK, so she didn't make me do the jazz hands or the peace sign, which by the way, I had to stop for a minute to try and remember how that one went. What are those hand signal things rappers do? And what do they mean? Oy.
She did, however, tweet about these Hunter Lace Ups and then I HAD to go and buy them. Happy Christmas to me. Now make me stop buying myself pressies cuz on Christmas morning my kids are going to run down to the tree and it will look like this. And I'll have to explain how Mommy really likes to indulge herself. Nice Mommy.

kindness

I want to tell you about something that happened to me. Here's the back-story: As you may have guessed, I was having a bit of a freak out yesterday. It was really really hard for me to watch myself on video. I was overwhelmed. But new and old internet buddies were so kind to me and that helped a lot. Thank you. Really. Heartfelt thanks.

And then I went to check the mail. And I found a package I wasn't expected from a previous enhabiten customer. Kathleen, who runs this shop, sent me a package of the most beautiful fabric. Just because. You know how when you are feeling emotional small things so easily bring tears to your eyes? Well, I'm still feeling like that today and just looking at the card she sent me is giving me a little lump in my throat.

Sometimes I feel like I've entered this weird twilight space of the internet art and craft world and it feels kind of unreal and I wonder what I'm doing here. Can I say that? I'm a fairly private person. But then I see how many wonderful connections I've made with kindred spirits and it makes sense.

I know I'm getting into the gooey space of "feelings" and "sharing" here. I'm making myself roll my own eyes. Because a lot of the time I'm a kook and a jokester and not looking for a group therapy session. But I'd love to hear any of your ideas about this stuff.

xo you guys. to eternity.

nothing says christmas like a chicken

So, I have a friend on Etsy who cracks me up like nobody's bizness. He's funny. Real funny. Here's his shop link: http://www.lambert.etsy.com/ and he makes the delightful chalkware chickens you see here.

Nothing says "happy holidays" like a chicken. Don't even try to argue me THAT point.

Now go buy a chicken.

how table runners promote civility

i have a good amount of light weight vintage fabrics. i decided to make some small patchwork pieces for myself to pretty up my table tops and i'm putting some in the shop. having one on my bedroom dresser makes me feel guilty about being so messy and piling up clothing willy nilly rather than putting them away where they belong. sometimes. which is better than no times. and having one on my kitchen table helps me slow down and drink my coffee or tea in a more civilized manner. because civility, my dears, is important in this crazy world. if the table is pretty i stop to appreciate it. the end.
