rising trill

it rained all last night.  it came to me about one o'clock in the morning that a car window was left open.  but i'd had a difficult evening and i couldn't care enough to drag myself out of bed to close it.  it seemed like a reasonable thing to just let go.  it's quite relative isn't it, what feels important to take care of and when?

this morning i had to go over to my old house to let my dog out.  i walked.  i took the long way and i brought my camera with me.  it was overcast, not raining but wet.  i heard a chorus of spring peepers for the second time this season.  i was alone standing on the edge of the road and i thought, i could be a frog.  i could survive the winter by hibernating under a log, my bodily fluids allowed to freeze to adapt to the cold, emerging in the spring as soon as the ice melts,  my call a rising trill.

foggy weather

eli found a large paper wasp's nest yesterday.  most of it was still high up in a tree but the bottom had fallen to the ground.  i found some pussy willow on a walk.

i've been doing a little bartering for things i need.  i sent some pillows to katie at pine and main and received a set of vintage mugs.  locally, i made some arm warmers for a yoga teacher in exchange for a few classes.

there's a new fisherman pillow in the shop this morning and i plan to put some heavy naturally dyed black hemp canvas pillow covers i'm calling "galaxy" in the shop this afternoon.  they'll have a vintage black glass button closure with hand-stitched button holes.  this black fabric is my favorite hand-dye.

tugboat printshop

i grew up in new hampshire but i think i didn't fully appreciate the woods and the wildlife until recently.  i love to hear the birds talking in the morning, insects chirping up on the hill near my house at daytime and especially i love when i'm outdoors at night and can hear owls and coyotes.  i love the city.  but if i had to choose between the two, the natural world is where it's at.

when i go for walks i most love the smell of wild concord grapes soft and browning and falling from the vine at the end of the season.  out walking, i also gathered some oak galls and acorns and sumac.  did you know you can dye with all those things?

i made some things with fall colored boiled wools and dyed hemp and tossed them right into the shop.

ps- i loved LOVED all your responses to my bad dream post.  let us hope we all have sweet dreams tonite.
