i'm missing light and i'm missing warmth.   in my dreams last night there was green grass and the heat of the sun on my skin.   i'm also remembering some weird worrying thoughts...and chocolate.  and that pretty much sums up the stuff of my brain.

what all you got in your brains, hmm??

I have this old white plastic laundry basket that I keep trying to get rid of but it always finds it's way back to me.  Sometime last week I had a dream that I could fly in that laundry basket.

There were other parts to the dream featuring people and places from my past.  These people and places come with complicated emotions but they make up who I am and even if I think of them infrequently in my waking hours my sleeping mind knows better.

In the dream I had to plan a party in a restaurant I worked at as a teenager.  People from that time period were in the dream as well as people who have come in and out of my life since.

There are significant details of the dream I forget now but I remember that I wanted something from these people and they wanted something from me.  What we wanted was hard to define.  A place in each other's memories, a feeling of understanding, a validation of meaning.

In between the party planning I was alone on this stretch of road in the town I grew up in.  It was dark and quiet.  It's a road without much redemption; sand pits and a few houses with peeling paint.  But I was in this white plastic laundry basket.

I know.  There is an element of comedy and absurdity here.

But see, I could make this basket leave the ground.  I could hover over the road about 20 feet or so and then I could fly.  It took effort.  I recall that I could only do this for so long and then I needed to touch down, gather my energy, and try again.  I was a little nervous that I might crash or hit the power lines.  But I didn't.

I was alone on this road in the dark and the white plastic kind of shone like a beacon and I could fly.  It was hard and it was silly and I was riding a white plastic laundry basket for God's sake.  But it was worth it because I could fly.

morning to ya.

yesterday we noticed a little field mouse youngster skipping around the floor here at casa enhab.  after a little internets research we decided the little hopper is about 4-6 weeks old and in that period where it's exploring away from mama. we decided to catch him and release him outside behind the house.  thinking he'd find his way back to the nest which is most likely under the house.  but guess what?  an hour later he was scurrying around indoors again.  silly mouse.  his informal name is now mr. willy.  or little willy.  snicker snicker.  i know, i'm immature.

so i know what i did next was not the right solution for a person who is trying to get rid of a mouse but i couldn't  help myself.  i started to leave him little mousie snacks on the floor.  he's had almond slivers, watermelon, leftover oatmeal, kashi cereal.  he's a healthy eater.

anyway, now what?

beyond that, it's flipping hot here.  and i'm working on this funny crooked house painting and patching and stuff.  and sending out enhabiten orders.  and jumping in the swimming pool outside my door every once in awhile.   are you jealous?

i'm also having intense dreams and reading about dream research and interpretation and thinking about that a lot.   continuing my train of thought from yesterday, i am for the first time in my life really sitting with some thoughts and ideas instead of flitting on to the next thing.  so the dreams, i find myself sitting quietly and really turning them over in my head and giving them their true due attention.  swimming out deep with them if you will.

the sleeping porch

Not really sleeping porch related, but I used to have this recurring dream that my house was made completely of glass. And sometimes there would be a pack of wolves roaming around outside. Hmmmmm....
I love all the linens piled up on the bed in the top image (courtesy of apartmenttherapy). The second image is actually a sleeping porch President Taft had erected on the roof of the White House in the early 20th century. (image from here). Awesome, right? The last three vintage images are group sleeping porches from mental hospitals and a TB hospital. (found here and here). Does that depress you? I hope not. I liked the pictures better than some of the foo-foo done up ones I was finding in my search.

the green ceiling

through the circuitous route of the design blog web here's a pretty thing for this morning. found via katy who found it via traci and it's a picture taken by this lassie.
and i'm gonna come up with something good for later. write something sensational. take a picture MYSELF.
oh, here's something...i had a dream last night that i was walking down the road past a house i grew up in (there were many but this one was the last during my teen years till i left home) and i decided to go inside. i was with another girl, a friend who is faceless and nameless now and who i think was one of those weird amalgams of many people..you know how that happens in dreams. no one is home at the house but i go in anyway. i don't do much inside but know the whole time i shouldn't be there. it's neat with stacked wood, the dishes are done. yah. these are the things i note in my dream. what's my preoccupation? so we are leaving and as we open the door the owners pull up. i try to come up with a good reason why we are there. i try to charm them like a snake charmer till i can duck and run. they just look at me weird.
that's it. kind of a boring dream after all. jeez. sorry.
and lastly, i made key lime squares last night and they are seductive little things. i just ate spoonfuls for breakfast. because, you know, eating with the spoon out of the pan is not like actually having dessert for breakfast. am i right?
